Kristina Douglas’s sexy new series introduces a realm of fallen angels and ruthless demons, where an eternal rebellion is brewing . . . and one unsuspecting woman can change the fate of the Fallen forever.

Author's Summary
She was just an ordinary mortal . . .
“You’re dead” is so not what Allie Watson wants to hear. Unfortunately, it explains a lot. Like the dark, angelically handsome man who ferried her to this strange, hidden land. The last thing she remembers is stepping off a curb in front of a cross-town bus. Now she’s surrounded by gorgeous fallen angels with an unfortunate taste for blood—and they really don’t want her around. Not exactly how she pictured heaven...until death catapulted her into a seductive world she never imagined.
Raziel is unsure why he rescued Allie from hellfire against Uriel’s orders, but she stirs in him a longing he hasn’t felt in centuries. Now the Fallen must brace for the divine wrath brought by his disobedience, and they blame Allie for the ferocious Nephilim clawing at the kingdom’s shrouded gates. Facing impossible odds at every turn, the two must work together to survive. Raziel must defend his spirited lover against the forces of darkness–because Allie may be the Fallen’s only salvation.

My Thoughts

Background: Exiled by the archangel Uriel, twenty Fallen Angels were sent to live in another realm called Sheol.  They were doomed to eternal torment for the sin of following Lucifer and cursed as blood-eaters.  While they wait for the return of Lucifer to save them from Uriel’s despotism, they are tasked with ferrying souls to their destiny – whatever that might be.  It’s not their place to question where the souls go, only to escort them.

Until Raziel has to escort Allie to meet her destiny.  He doesn’t know her fate, however he doubts she is going to the gates of hell and tries to calm her telling her all will be fine.  He feels a sudden attraction to her and admires her strength.  So just as she is going through, he sees the fires of hell and pulls her back risking death and Uriel’s wrath.

Characters: Raziel is deliciously strong and powerful.  He is also short-tempered, unyielding, and at times...even grumpy.  Allie is self-centered, stubborn, and an absolute pain in Raziel’s ass. She’s constantly talking  - most times inappropriately and at the wrong time – and he was constantly telling her to shut up .  Which added quite a bit of humor to the story.  Their bantering had me laughing out loud many times.

Conflict: It feels kinda strange to root for Lucifer’s team, but in this case, they are the good guys.  Uriel is officially God’s appointed one, however, when it comes to the Fallen, he’s an uncompromising zealot.  Since the Fallen are living peacefully in Sheol and not visibly suffering, he thinks they should be punished for it.  Uriel cannot directly disobey God’s will but he still plots to destroy them however he can.  The Fallen aren’t completely innocent as they are looking for Lucifer, however, they do so trying to save themselves from Uriel’s tyranny.

My View
Apart from my major cover crush, I really enjoyed this novel.  It’s a good start to the series.  The story world is established with some of the characters introduced and theories formed as how the story could continue.  I would like to see more of Uriel himself since he is their true enemy but I understand that in this novel, he had to stay in the background.  I plan to start the second book in this series (Demon) as soon as I finished this review!!
