Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost
Cat (aka Catherine or Kitty) is a 22 year-old half-vampire half human who slays vampires hoping one day she will find her father, the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life. Cat has always known she was different, stronger, with heightened senses. So at the encouragement of her mother, she makes it her mission to frequent bars looking like a naive harmless girl, all the while hunting for vampires who prey on women. She feels she owes this to her mother after what she went through.
Things all change when one night she meets the powerful vampire, Bones. She goes through her usual act of seduction but instead of her getting the upper hand and staking him, he captures her thinking she was hired to kill him. Bones is a vampire bounty hunter and as such has many enemies. Once he determines she wasn’t hired to kill him, he sees an advantage using her to lure the vampires he’s hired to kill. Cat does not particularly want to partner with him since all vampires are supposed to be evil, however, he threatens her family and forces her to work with him to kill older, more powerful vampires.
Cat finds herself working for a government agency that captures and studies vampires. She eventually discovers that not all vampires are evil and that the part of herself she always hated is not the curse she thought it to be thus questioning everything she’s been told all her life.
Throughout the series, we see the love that blossoms and evolves between Cat and Bones and the many adventures that ensues. This series has the perfect balance of romance, suspense, action, and humor. The humor is funnier, the romance is sexier, the action is more edgy and it never slows down. Bones is hotter than you can EVER imagine. Your heart cannot help but melt for him and you will find yourself rooting for the couple.
The main characters evolve without changing the core of who they are and the supporting characters are integral to the overall story and are as well developed and compelling as the main ones.
Frost has created an incredibly strong female lead and a truly sexy bad boy with an accent that will have you melting and swooning. I would say that Cat and Bones are one of the best, if not the best couple in the genre today. Their love is all consuming and passionate. There are more laugh-out-loud moments than you can count. It is a must read for anyone who is smitten with this genre.
