Author Summary
When Abby and Noah
meet, there is an explosive attraction between them that neither can deny...
As a shy, awkward,
social misfit, Abby has gone her whole life feeling as though she's different
from everyone else and she simply doesn't fit in well with society as a whole.
She longs to feel a real connection with someone, and she finally does when she
meets Noah.
Unbeknownst to Abby,
Noah is from another world and his sole purpose is to hunt down the evil of his
people that was unleashed on Earth hundreds of years ago. He's certain he isn't
going to be able to return to his home, and anger and the need for revenge are
his constant companions. His focus has been eradicating the evil and making
them pay for taking his life on his world away from him.
Noah tries desperately
to fight his attraction to Abby so he can keep his focus on his mission. But
when Abby gets dragged into the evil and mayhem from Noah's world, he realizes
that maybe with Abby he can find a home here on Earth...if he can save her in
time.
My Thoughts
The Light Within Me is the first novel
in Carly Fall’s Paranormal Romance series, Six Saviours. Fall has created a very intriguing story of
otherworlders living here on Earth. She
delivers a well-structured novel that excites with action and conflict, and captivates
with steamy romance. The main characters in this story are true-to-life and there’s
an array of supporting characters that suggests lots of promise for future
novels.
I’m going to do what I haven’t yet as a reviewer and rate this
novel at 3 ½ stars. I enjoyed the story and the world building, loved the
characters, and parts of the novel really resonated with me. However, there
were a few unanswered questions and a shortage of dialogue that I found a
little too off-putting for me to give it a full 4 star rating.
That said, this is still a very good story and I will definitely
be reading the next one, Finding My Faith,
which came out in March 2012. This
series has a lot of potential and it reminds me a lot of the Midnight Breed
series - which is a very good thing in my point of view.
About the story…
Criminals on planet SR44 are banished from society and sent
to live out their days on ‘The Colony’ - a very cold, gray and desolate place
where nothing grows from lack of sunlight. There is no rehabilitation strategies or integration
back into society for the Colonists. Once you are found guilty of a crime,
that’s it. You are exiled and never allowed to return. The people of SR44
believe in making criminals as miserable as possible just as the victim’s
families live in misery. These strict rules keep crime to a minimum and there
are never more than 100 at a time on the Colony.
Twelve of these hardcore criminals hijacked a cargo ship and
escaped. Ashamed of their failure, SR44’s
military chose six of their best warriors to go in search of the escapees and
kill them. The warriors are not allowed
back on SR44 or permitted any contact with anyone there until all twelve of the
escapees are found and dealt with (and any possible offspring). The group
arrogantly figured the mission would be an easy ‘in and out’, however, the
Colonists proved to be more wily than they thought. After 200 years on Earth,
the warriors still have 6 left to find and kill.
About the Characters…
Noah is one of six warriors sent to Earth on this mission. Disenchanted by the ‘less than stellar’
performance of the mission, missing his home and his old life, Noah has been
feeling stress more than usual. Hopelessness and excessive drinking has driven
him to become reclusive. Unlike the
other warriors, Noah has not taken a human lover while on Earth and his loneliness
is unrelenting. Until he meets
Abby.
Abby is also disenchanted with life. She’s always felt different
from everyone else and has never fit in.
Unhappy in her job and tired of unfulfilling relationships, she’s looking
for something exciting to happen in her life. When she meets Noah, she knows instantly
her life is going to change.
Noah and Abby have great chemistry and despite the turmoil
surrounding them and the obstacles they must overcome, their relationship is a
pure and loving one. They are well
suited and complement each other nicely.
We are briefly introduced to the other warriors. Each has his own special power or skill that
made him a choice for the mission. While
Noah, as leader, is more reserved, the others seem more mischievous. I’m looking forward to reading their stories.
Bottom Line
The author has created an excellent story world, interesting
plot and compelling characters in her first novel of the series. There were a
couple of things that I found a little puzzling and it resulted in a 3 ½ instead of a 4 star
rating. Regardless, I fully intend to
read the next in the series, Finding My
Faith, which just came out in March this year.
Happy Reading!!
